Wolf Moon in Leo on 22 January 2027: The Supermoon That Wants You Seen
The Wolf Moon reaches full at 12:17 on 22 January 2027, and this one is a supermoon in Leo. January full moons usually turn up while everybody is being sensible, three weeks into a resolution and halfway through a dry month. This one has no interest in sensible.
What the Wolf Moon Is
The Wolf Moon is the first full moon of the year. The popular story says it was named for hungry wolves howling outside settlements in deep winter, which is a good story and probably not the reason. Wolves are simply more vocal in January, because midwinter is their mating season. Make of that what you will. If you want to work with the moon properly rather than just look at it, start with our guide to moon rituals.
Where the Magic Actually Happens
Astrology is better in person. Real people, real chemistry, real venues. Find your next night out.
It is also the first of only two supermoons in 2027, which means the moon is near its closest point to Earth and will look slightly larger and noticeably brighter. The second arrives four weeks later. Astrologically, the part that matters is the axis. The Sun is in Aquarius and the moon sits opposite in Leo, which sets the tone for the whole opening stretch of the year covered in our 2027 astrology predictions.
Aquarius is the group, the principle and the friend to everyone. Leo is the one person who wants to be chosen. For a few days in late January, being part of the group stops being enough.
What It Means for Your Love Life
This is the recognition moon. Leo full moons do not ask whether you are loved in theory, they ask whether you feel it in practice, and those are very different questions.
The timing is pointed. January is where cuffing season quietly sorts itself out. Whatever was convenient in November has either turned into something real by now or it has not, and a Leo full moon is extremely good at telling the difference. If you have spent eight weeks being somebody's warm option, you will know it this week, and you will mind.
The risk is the obvious Leo one. Wanting to be appreciated is reasonable. Testing someone to see whether they will prove it is not, and under this moon the line between the two gets thin. If you find yourself constructing a small drama to check that somebody cares, that is the supermoon talking.
The upside is considerable. Leo is warm, generous and genuinely bad at being lukewarm. This is a strong week for the grand gesture, the proper date rather than the sofa, and for telling someone plainly that you want them. Leo does not do hinting, and January is a month that badly needs some colour in it.
If You Are Single
January is the busiest month of the year for dating, which sounds encouraging until you remember what that actually means: everybody is on their phone at once, and a Leo moon in a crowded inbox is a sign being wasted. Leo needs a room. It wants to be looked at, not scrolled past.
Dress like you expect to be seen, go somewhere with people in it, and resist the January instinct to stay in and wait for spring. This is the most confident few days you are likely to get until the clocks change.
How to Use It
Ask for the thing instead of testing for it. If you want more attention, more effort or more certainty, say so in one clear sentence. Leo gets what it asks for and almost never gets what it hints at.
Be generous first. The fastest way to feel appreciated under a Leo moon is to make somebody else feel it. This is not a moral point, it is simply how the energy moves.
Do not make a decision about January in January. A supermoon in the darkest, flattest month will make a mediocre situation feel unbearable. It is still worth noticing what it shows you, but act on it in February.
Put the Confidence Somewhere Useful
A Leo supermoon spent indoors is a waste of a perfectly good moon. Our astrology-led singles nights run across nineteen UK cities and New York, and January is when they are at their busiest, so have a look at what is coming up or find your nearest city. Group tickets save you both 25%, and our reviews and success stories include couples who met at our events, went exclusive, and in one case got engaged.
What Comes Next
The next new moon falls on 6 February in Aquarius, and it is a busy one: it carries an annular solar eclipse and it is also Chinese New Year, the start of the Year of the Fire Goat. That is the better moment for starting something, and our guide to new moon intentions explains how. After that comes the second supermoon of the year, the Snow Moon in Virgo on 20 February, which is a far more sober affair.
