Everybody talks about cuffing season starting in November, once the clocks have gone back and the evenings have collapsed. In practice it starts at Halloween, and it starts the way most things do, with people being braver than usual for one night and then wondering what to do about it in the morning.
Why Halloween Is the Real Start
It is the last night of the year that gives everybody a reason to talk to a stranger. You have a costume to comment on, a reason to be somewhere, and a socially agreed excuse to be a slightly bolder version of yourself. In February you would need a personality transplant to open a conversation that easily.

There is a seasonal mechanism underneath it too. The clocks change in late October, the evenings go, and the calculation people make about whether to bother going out shifts overnight. That is the actual trigger for cuffing season, and Halloween sits right on the edge of it.
Scorpio season also begins on 23 October, which is the least casual month in the zodiac. Between the two, the second half of October is when people stop pretending they are relaxed about things. Situationships get named or they quietly end. Very little survives October unexamined.

Halloween Events
Six Halloween parties are now live, and they are all on the parties page. Edinburgh goes first, at Brewhemia on Thursday 29 October. Then on Friday 30 October, the night before Halloween itself, there are five more: Glasgow at The Noble, Guildford at Five and Lime, Leamington Spa at Hart + Co, Newcastle at Harry's Bar and Southampton at Turtle Bay.
These run differently to the regular singles evenings. They are all ages rather than age-banded, there are sixty places at each, and they lean more party than structured. Dressing up is encouraged rather than required, and there is a prize for the best costume. Meanwhile, the Regular Nights Are Running
There are around sixty singles nights across October, in nineteen UK cities and New York. London, Brighton, Edinburgh, Nottingham and Cardiff all have full calendars, and the full city list has the rest.
