It’s almost February, and the time of year that most singles hate, Valentine’s Day.
Social media is flooded with happy couples blissfully announcing how in love they are and people are sharing milestones in their relationships. And if you have been single for a while, this can feel suffocating.
So how do we get through this time and have fun? Less survive and more thrive? I’ve popped together some of my top tips for this period and how to really enjoy Valentine’s day for Singles!

At the end of the day, Valentine’s day is just that, a day. And once it’s done, it’s done for another year. Yes the run up to it sees every shop doing a deal, every bunch of flowers seemingly involving roses and every restaurant doing a deal for two.
However you don’t need to make it a huge thing for YOURSELF if you don’t want to. Avoid the shops, put your phone down and settle in with a film for the night. Go to a HIIT class if it feels good.
There’s no rule to say you can’t buy yourself a little present for Valentines! If you want to mark the occasion with a candle, treat yourself to a takeaway or buy yourself that jumper you’ve had your eye on for ages! If there’s a film you wanted to see, there is no rule to say you can’t go on your own! Just because you may be single, doesn’t mean you can’t have a little bit of fun or a gift…
You don’t have to be IN love to spread the lurrrve over Valentines! You can spend time with your friends, your family or even your pet. There is never a bad time to tell those you hold dear how much you love them or even better, to show them! Give a friend a bunch of flowers for no reason, give your pet an extra treat and squeeze your family extra tight.
Galentine’s Day is all about celebrating friendship and what better way to do it than heading to a singles event together (guys, you can do this too!) It feels like a bit of a given, hence I’m obviously a HUGE Love at First Sign Event advocate. However there is nothing better than a singles event over this period. It allows you to be in a space with fellow singles and either moan about how much of a nightmare the single world is OR enjoy meeting others in the same boat, try something different and have a fun night out! Try it, you never know, you may have a good time!
Valentine’s can be a total headache, especially if you have been single for a long time or have found yourself newly single, but it is really important to remember it is JUST a day. You can choose to treat it like any other weekday, mark it with loved ones or mark it in a way that feels authentic to you.
However you choose to spend this season, remember that being single can be super fun and you don’t just have to be in a relationship to enjoy it!
