What a Tarot Reading at a Singles Night Is Actually Like
Having a tarot reader in the room changes a singles night more than you would expect, and not for the reason people assume. It is not that anybody walks away believing the cards have told them who to marry. It is that a reading gives two strangers something specific to talk about within thirty seconds of meeting, which is the hardest part of the entire evening.
Why Tarot Works in a Room Full of Strangers
The standard opening at any singles event is some version of what do you do, where are you from, how did you hear about this. Everybody has answered those three questions forty times and nobody has ever learned anything from them.
Where the Magic Actually Happens
Astrology is better in person. Real people, real chemistry, real venues. Find your next night out.
A reading hands you a genuinely different opener. You have just been told something faintly personal by a stranger with a deck of cards, and so has the person next to you. Comparing those two things is immediately more interesting than comparing job titles, and it skips about forty minutes of polite groundwork.
It also gives the more nervous half of the room somewhere to stand. Queueing for something is a socially acceptable way to be in a room without having to work it, and people talk in queues.
What Actually Happens
The reader sets up somewhere slightly out of the main flow of the room, usually a corner table. You sit down, they ask what you want to look at, and they pull a small spread. It takes a few minutes rather than half an hour, because the point is to be part of the night rather than to remove you from it.
You do not need to know anything about tarot. You do not need a question prepared. Most people arrive with a vague version of what is going on with my love life, and that is entirely enough to work with.
What It Will Not Do
Worth saying plainly, because it manages the expectation and the evening goes better when it is managed. Nobody is going to tell you the name of the person you will marry, point across the room, or predict a date. A reader who did that would be doing something closer to theatre.
What a good reading does is describe a pattern you already half recognise and put it in front of you in language you did not have for it. Whether that is the cards or simply someone paying close attention to you for five minutes is a question you can settle for yourself. It is useful either way.
And if the reading lands badly, which occasionally happens, you are in a room full of people rather than alone with it. That is not nothing.
Where to Find One
We have tarot readers at selected events rather than at every one. New York has had one, and there is a reader booked for our upcoming collaboration with Charlotte Tilbury. The events page says on the listing where one is included, so check before you book if it is the reason you are coming.
The Rest of the Night
The tarot is one part of it rather than the whole thing. There is a host running the room, icebreakers that do not make you want to leave, and the Cosmic Fusion app showing you your compatibility with other people there before you have spoken to them. If you want the full running order, here is what to expect at one of our events.
If There Is Not One Near You Yet
The regular nights run right across the UK and in New York, and the full city list has everywhere we are. October is a good month to start, incidentally. Scorpio season begins on 23 October and it is the least casual month in the zodiac, which is exactly the wrong month to keep putting things off.
Group tickets save you both 25%, so bring somebody if arriving alone is the sticking point. And our reviews and success stories include couples who met at our events, went exclusive, and in one case got engaged.
