Sturgeon Moon in Aquarius on 17 August 2027: The Clean Break
The Sturgeon Moon reaches full at 08:29 on 17 August 2027, in Aquarius, and it is a lunar eclipse. It is also the last act of a five week run that included the longest total solar eclipse of the century. By the time this moon arrives, most people already know what has changed. This is the week they admit it.
What the Sturgeon Moon Is
The August full moon takes its name from the sturgeon that were once caught in large numbers in the Great Lakes at this time of year. It is sometimes called the Grain Moon or the Green Corn Moon. It is the last full moon of the summer proper, and in 2027 it is carrying a great deal more than usual.
Where the Magic Actually Happens
Astrology is better in person. Real people, real chemistry, real venues. Find your next night out.
Two weeks earlier, on 2 August, a total solar eclipse crossed North Africa and the Middle East at around ten degrees of Leo, lasting over six minutes and making it the longest of the century. It was not total from the UK, but astrologically it applies everywhere. The Lion's Gate portal on 8 August fell six days after it. This moon closes the sequence.
The axis is Leo and Aquarius. The Sun is in Leo, which wants to be adored by one person in particular. The moon is opposite in Aquarius, which steps back, looks at the whole arrangement from a distance and asks whether it still makes sense. Aquarius is the coolest-headed sign in the zodiac, and an eclipse there does not do drama. It does decisions.
What It Means for Your Love Life
This is the detachment moon, and it is the most underrated full moon of the year. Aquarius gives you the ability to look at your own relationship as though it belonged to somebody else, which is uncomfortable and extremely clarifying. Most people are far better at advising a friend than at advising themselves. For a few days in August you get to do both at once.
Endings under this moon tend to be calm rather than explosive. There is rarely a row. There is a conversation in which both people are unusually reasonable, and then it is over, and everybody is slightly surprised by how little shouting was involved. Eclipse endings are like that. They feel less like a decision and more like something that had already happened.
The risk is that Aquarius detaches a little too well. Stepping back is useful. Going cold on somebody who deserved a conversation is not, and this moon makes that remarkably easy to do without noticing. If you find yourself drafting a reasonable paragraph about needing space, check whether it is clarity or simply avoidance in better language.
The upside is honesty without heat. Things that could not be said in the Leo weeks, when everybody was performing a good summer, can be said plainly now. If you struggle to put any of it into words, start with how each sign expresses love, because a surprising number of August arguments are translation problems rather than real ones.
If You Are Single
Aquarius rules friendship, and this moon has a habit of blurring the line between a friend and something else. Late August is when somebody you have known for years suddenly looks different, usually at a wedding or a barbecue. Whether that is a good idea depends a great deal on your big three, and on how much you would mind losing the friendship.
It is also a genuinely good moon for walking away from a pattern rather than a person. Aquarius is the sign of doing it differently, and if the last three people you dated were recognisably the same person, this is the week to notice that and change something.
How to Use It
Write the advice you would give a friend. In the third person, about your own situation. Under an Aquarius moon it works unreasonably well, and you will almost certainly already know the answer.
Have the conversation rather than the slow fade. Aquarius will offer you a dignified exit without one. Take the ten awkward minutes instead. It is the difference between an ending and an unanswered question somebody carries into next year.
Change one thing about how you date. Not everything. One thing, and keep it until Christmas. Eclipse seasons are far better at starting new patterns than new year resolutions ever are.
Do Something Different
Aquarius responds to a change of method rather than a change of effort. If the usual approach has not worked this year, try a different room. Our astrology-led singles nights run across nineteen UK cities and New York, so have a look at what is coming up or find your nearest city. If an eclipse summer has left you wanting a quieter night, our Wellness at First Sign events involve no matchmaking at all.
What Comes Next
The Virgo new moon at the end of August is the practical reset after all of this, and the Harvest Moon follows on 15 September to open the autumn. Eclipse seasons take a few weeks to settle, so if August left you with more questions than answers, our moon rituals guide is a better companion for September than another dating app.
