Which LA Neighbourhood Should You Date In, Based on Your Star Sign
In most cities where you live is small talk. In Los Angeles it is closer to a compatibility test, because a twelve mile date can be seventy minutes each way and a cross town relationship has the logistics of long distance without the sympathy. We went into why in our honest guide to dating in LA. So here is the fun version of the same problem.
The Fire Signs
Aries: Downtown. Fast, unfinished, permanently under construction and full of people who arrived before it was ready. DTLA rewards the sign that turns up first and works it out afterwards. Aries will love that something opens every week and will not mind that half of it closes again.

Leo: West Hollywood. Obviously. Leo needs to be seen, and WeHo is the only neighbourhood in LA where being looked at is the point rather than a side effect. Ruled by the Sun, drawn to the place with the best lighting. There is no argument to be had here.
Sagittarius: Venice. Nobody in Venice is from Venice, which suits the sign least interested in where anybody came from. Chaotic, coastal, full of people passing through on the way to somewhere else. A Sagittarius will be happy there and will still be talking about moving to Lisbon.
The Earth Signs
Taurus: Malibu. Slow, beautiful, expensive and entirely uninterested in changing. Taurus is ruled by Venus and organised around comfort and the senses, which is Malibu in one sentence. The traffic is dreadful and a Taurus will decide it is worth it, then never leave again.
Virgo: Culver City. Tidy, well run, quietly excellent and almost never mentioned in a film. Culver City is the neighbourhood that works, which is the highest compliment Virgo has. It is also central enough to be sensible about, and Virgo will have checked the drive times.
Capricorn: Century City. Towers, agencies, lawyers, and a skyline that exists because of work. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn and is the only sign that would choose to date near the office on purpose. Unromantic, efficient, and quietly the correct answer if you value your evenings.
The Air Signs
Gemini: Silver Lake. Coffee shops full of people with two jobs and three side projects, all of whom will happily talk to you for an hour. Gemini is ruled by Mercury and lives in conversation, and Silver Lake is the most conversational square mile in the city. Trends turn over fast enough to keep it interested.
Libra: Beverly Hills. Also ruled by Venus, and it shows. Libra wants beauty, proportion and everything looking correct, which is Beverly Hills as a design brief. It is not the most exciting choice and Libra was never trying to be exciting. It was trying to be lovely, and it is.
Aquarius: Highland Park. Was there before it was fashionable and will tell you so. Aquarius is the contrarian of the zodiac and Highland Park is the neighbourhood most likely to have a genuine community argument about a new coffee shop. Both are more principled than they let on.
The Water Signs
Cancer: Pasadena. Old houses, actual trees, and people who have been there for decades rather than eighteen months. Cancer rules home and roots, and Pasadena is the closest LA gets to a place people stay. It is also far enough east that a Cancer can hide when it needs to.
Scorpio: Echo Park. Better after dark, slightly guarded, and considerably more interesting than it lets on to a stranger. Scorpio wants depth and a little secrecy, and Echo Park obliges on both. The lake at night is the most Scorpio place in Los Angeles.
Pisces: Topanga. Technically in LA, spiritually somewhere else entirely. Winding roads, canyon light, and a genuine density of people who will read your chart unprompted. Pisces is ruled by Neptune and will be extremely happy here, right up until it has to drive anywhere on a schedule.
The Serious Point Underneath the Fun One
Geography is the single most underrated variable in LA dating. Not because the neighbourhoods have personalities, though they clearly do, but because the drive decides how often you actually see somebody. Two people who like each other and live forty minutes apart will see each other less than two people who are lukewarm and live in the same postcode. Frequency builds relationships. Distance quietly kills them.
So the useful version of this article is: decide your radius honestly, date inside it, and pick a third neighbourhood between you for the first few. Everything above is a considerably more entertaining way of arriving at the same advice.
And Your Sun Sign Is Not the Whole Story
